Water baptism is simply:
- Identification with Christ: Going down into the water represents dying with Jesus, and rising out of the water represents His resurrection.
- New Life: It signifies burying the “old life” of sin and rising as a “new creation” in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
- Obedience: Believers practice it because Jesus commanded His followers to be baptized (Matthew 28:19).
- Public Confession: It acts as an open testimony to the church and community that a person belongs to Jesus.
